SUMMARY:Expert Workshop: SMEs readiness factors for adopting Advanced Manufacturing products and modernise their business Challenges and Policy Actions
DESCRIPTION:Manufacturing&nbsp\; SMEs&nbsp\; in&nbsp\; Europe&nbsp\; and&nbsp\; beyond&nbsp\; are&nbsp\; under&nbsp\; increasing&nbsp\; pressure&nbsp\; today&nbsp\; for&nbsp\; adopting&nbsp\; advanced technologies and products in order to stay competitive and successfully participate in local and global supply chains. The question is straightforward: Are they ready to do so\, and if not\, which are the main barriers and obstacles that prevent them to make this step forward? Can SMEs see the potential benefits for improving their productivity\, and increasing their production capacity and innovation capability? Are their managers ready to invest and change the structure and&nbsp\;culture&nbsp\;of&nbsp\;their&nbsp\; company&nbsp\; to&nbsp\; respond&nbsp\; to&nbsp\; the&nbsp\; new&nbsp\; challenges&nbsp\; of&nbsp\; digitalisation&nbsp\; and&nbsp\; resource&nbsp\; efficiency? How can policy actions support them to take the right decision? What programmes\, initiatives and support services for manufacturing SMEs exist today in EU countries\, and what are the lessons learned so far?\nThe workshop will bring together stakeholders from different Member States to debate on the readiness&nbsp\; factors&nbsp\; of&nbsp\; SMEs\,&nbsp\; as&nbsp\; well&nbsp\; as&nbsp\; the&nbsp\; barriers&nbsp\; and&nbsp\; implications&nbsp\; of&nbsp\; up&nbsp\; taking&nbsp\; advanced&nbsp\; manufacturing&nbsp\; technologies&nbsp\; and&nbsp\; products.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; In&nbsp\; particular\,&nbsp\; intermediary&nbsp\; support&nbsp\; organisations that&nbsp\; are&nbsp\; currently&nbsp\; providing&nbsp\; specific&nbsp\; services&nbsp\; to&nbsp\; manufacturing&nbsp\; SMEs&nbsp\; will&nbsp\; provide&nbsp\; information&nbsp\; about their experience and lessons learned in working closely with manufacturing SMEs across EU countries. Taking into account the expressed views and the key recommendations from this debate\,&nbsp\; the&nbsp\; objective&nbsp\; will&nbsp\; be&nbsp\; to&nbsp\; draw&nbsp\; some&nbsp\; concrete&nbsp\; policy&nbsp\; actions&nbsp\; that&nbsp\; could&nbsp\; be&nbsp\; implemented&nbsp\; under COSME and H2020 in 2016-&shy\;-2017\, with a view to help Member States leverage their efforts in this area or to be inspired by it and launch similar support schemes in their country.&nbsp\;\nIt is expected that an audience of about 50-&shy\;70 stakeholders attend the workshop\, composed of manufacturing SME managers\, intermediary organisations providing specific support services to SMEs&nbsp\; in&nbsp\; this&nbsp\; area\,&nbsp\; cluster&nbsp\; managers\,&nbsp\; representatives&nbsp\; from&nbsp\; European&nbsp\; SMEs&nbsp\; associations\,&nbsp\; and&nbsp\; policy makers.\nPlease find more information in the agenda of the event.
