More than 5,000 visitors from 66 countries took part in the partnering meetings, workshops, panels and company presentations at the trade fair - a record number for this event. In addition to the 25,000 partnering appointments during the trade fair, all participants had the opportunity to participate in virtual partnering from 2 to 4 November.
The Free State of Saxony and the City of Leipzig presented their comprehensive life science ecosystem together with companies and institutes. They demonstrated their outstanding host qualities not only at the joint Saxon stand and the BioCity Campus stand, but also at several location tours and receptions as well as evening events in the Gewandhaus with around 1,000 guests and in the Kongresshalle am Zoo with around 2,000 guests.
Clemens Schülke, Mayor and Councillor for Economic Affairs, Labour and Digital Affairs, sums up: "The city of Leipzig fulfilled its role as host of BIO-Europe 2022 as an international congress location to an excellent degree and thus made the leap into the Champions League of European life science locations. I see enormous future potential for the biotechnology centre in Leipzig. We actively used the event to present the BioCity Campus with its enormous potential in terms of laboratory and building space to a large audience and hope to attract innovative companies to Leipzig.
The biosaxony e. V. stand, which was centrally located in the exhibitor area, served as a contact point for countless international interested parties and was also home to stand receptions. Both the Saxon joint stand and the cluster itself were thus the stage for discussions with the American Consul General Kenchiro Toko, for the Japanese (JETRO) and German foreign trade organisations (GTAI) and the State Secretary of the SMWA, Mr Thomas Kralinski, among others.
State Secretary Thomas Kralinski commented: „By organising the BIO-Europe trade fair in Leipzig, Saxony has presented itself to the international public as a leading life science location. The Saxon companies and research institutions were able to showcase their unique expertise on the largest stand at the trade fair (around 100 square metres) and conclude valuable collaborations with national and international partners. BIO-Europe has provided important impetus for the economic development of the industry in Bavaria. Biotechnology is one of the future technologies of the 21st century and harbours enormous innovation and future potential for Saxony as a high-tech location.“Next year, the largest European biotech conference will take place in Munich. At the closing reception, André Hofmann from biosaxony handed over the baton to Horst Domdey from the BioM Biotech Cluster. BIO-Europe will once again bring together decision-makers from the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and financial sectors from 6 to 8 November 2023. On the way there, you should not miss the BIO-Europe Spring in Basel in March 2023.
André Hofmann, CEO of the industry association biosaxony resümiert: „The return of BIO-Europe to Saxony after 17 years has clearly shown everyone involved how positively both sides have developed. The event has grown threefold and Saxony has developed into a life science stronghold that can compete internationally, especially with the Leipzig location. The Free State of Saxony laid the foundations for this 22 years ago and will not fail to continue to support proactive partners here.
