Leipzig. This means that the Leipzig native has received the highest honour of the interdisciplinary medical society.

The European Head & Neck Society (EHNS) unites 3000 members from more than 25 countries. The interdisciplinary specialist society brings together doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals from oncology, radiotherapy, surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine and other disciplines that deal with cancer in the head and neck area.

Prof. Andreas Dietz has been active here for many years, most recently for five years as a member of the board. The prize awarded by the EHNS on 9 March now honours his work and his services to the European idea and the specialist society. These include his high level of scientific commitment, his dedication to European guidelines and standards for head and neck tumour therapies and Europe-wide training in head and neck surgery.

"I am delighted to receive this award from our umbrella organisation at European level," says Prof. Andreas Dietz. "It is a great honour that encourages me to continue our work in the EHNS and also here in Leipzig in the interests of our patients and cross-disciplinary cooperation."

With this in mind, the HNO Clinic at Leipzig University Hospital regularly participates in European studies, has initiated some studies itself and is involved in raising awareness with events as part of the European Head and Neck Cancer Weeks - this year too: this year's Patient Information Day will take place on 20 September.
