The city of Leipzig thus combines infrastructure with the growth dynamics of one of its key industries. In the immediate vicinity of institutions such as the Fraunhofer IZI or the iDiv research centre, an ecosystem is being created that closely interlinks research, spin-offs and scaling. Programmes such as Medical Forge are intended to attract international talent and retain them at the location in the long term. Financially, the project is based on several pillars. The city is contributing around 7.4 million euros via Leipziger Gewerbehof Gesellschaft, while a further 14.5 million euros will come from subsidies from the Free State of Saxony. This is Leipzig's response to years of high demand for specialised space, which is crucial for the development of new therapies. Commissioning is planned from 2028. The complete revitalisation of the exhibition hall not only creates additional capacity, but is also a visible signal to companies and investors that Leipzig is increasingly playing a stronger role in the international competition in biotechnology and that innovation in the trade fair city can be translated into marketable solutions more quickly.
