The event ‘Medical Technology in Transition’ on 5 November 2026 at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, experts from academia and industry will provide insights into current developments:

🤖 Robots in the operating theatre – @Prof. Dr Zeller from Görlitz Municipal Hospital reports from clinical practice: How is the Da Vinci surgical system changing surgery?

🧠 AI in medicine – Dr Eveline Prochaska demonstrates how KIMed, as a Saxon research network, supports the development and implementation of AI applications in medicine

💡 AI in clinical practice & administration – where do you actually start? Prof. Mike Espig uses the AI Compass to highlight which use cases are worthwhile and demonstrates live what an integrated AI environment might look like in practice.

♻️ Circular economy in hospitals – around 60 per cent of all medical devices are single-use items. Marc Krech and Holger Neumann explain what Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences can achieve in this area.

💡 Bedside MRI – Helge Herthum from Charité Berlin presents a mobile, open-source MRI scanner that brings imaging directly to where patients are.

🔋 Open-source medical technology – A workshop organised by the T!Raum initiatives OSHOP and transPORT, exploring how medicine and care can be made simpler, more affordable and better suited to everyday life.

🤝 Co-design in medicine and care – Technologies in medicine and care only realise their full potential when they are developed in collaboration with those who will later use them. Prof. Dr Andreas Hoff explains how this can be achieved in practice.

The event is accompanied by an interactive travelling exhibition with six stations in German and Polish, which offers a fascinating glimpse into the medical technology of the future – from the cultivation of artificial organs, through medical nanorobots and bioprostheses, to controlling devices using only one’s gaze.

Afterwards, we invite you to a get-together for personal discussions, making new contacts and initiating collaborations.

Anyone who cannot attend for the whole day is still very welcome! The event is organised in such a way that you can also drop by for just individual programme items.

Participation is free of charge and refreshments will be provided.

Who is the event for?
The event is aimed at anyone interested in the future of medicine and care, whether from academia, clinical practice, industry or the care sector, whether with many years of specialist expertise or simply out of curiosity. No specialist knowledge is required: anyone who would like to find out where medical technology is heading and what role new technologies will play in the healthcare of tomorrow is very welcome.
