The focus is on the integrins αvβ6 and αvβ8. These cell-surface receptors are usually present only in small quantities in healthy tissue, but can be overexpressed in various tumour diseases. This makes them suitable targets for molecular imaging and targeted radionuclide therapies. The acquired portfolio comprises two PET imaging tracers and one therapeutic candidate. All three programmes are in clinical development. Safety and efficacy have not yet been conclusively demonstrated. ABX now intends to continue these programmes using its own capabilities for clinical development, manufacturing, regulatory affairs and global supply. The company was previously involved, amongst other things, in the development of 177Lu PSMA 617 up to clinical phase two. The acquisition also highlights the growing momentum in theranostics. In this field, diagnostics and therapy are linked via the same molecular target structure. For ABX, the transaction broadens its position from services and production to a clinical portfolio in precision oncology.
