biosaxony new member introduces itself: SURAG Medical GmbH

Short profile of the company:

SURAG Medical was founded in 2021 and is a technology and MedTech startup based in Leipzig, Germany, with the goal of transforming minimally invasive surgery through advanced real-time tissue assessment technologies. Our leadership team consists of Dr Alfredo Illanes (Technical CEO), Thomas Sühn (Head of Product Development) Nazila Esmaeili (Head of Research) and Moritz Spiller (CEO Management and Commercialisation), supported by subject matter experts and physicians to ensure medical excellence.

SURAG Medical uses AI-driven algorithms to classify acoustic emissions from instrument-tissue interactions to provide critical real-time data for guidance and diagnosis during surgery. This innovative approach increases precision in spinal needle procedures, needle biopsies and cardiac catheterisation.

We offer companies the opportunity to integrate our sensors and algorithms into their instruments to make them more intelligent. This can be used, for example, to recognise tissue or to support the placement of instruments. In addition, we can monitor and analyse any mechanical and biological processes in which interactions between two objects take place with our sensor technology and algorithms - according to the individual requirements of our customers.

Support and navigation systems for minimally invasive procedures, e.g. needle interventions, robotic procedures, catheter applications, arthroscopy, etc.

We work closely with clinics and doctors throughout Germany.

Technology:

Our technology is based on the use of vibroacoustic signals that are generated when two objects interact and propagate naturally through these objects. Our specially developed sensor technology is able to detect these tiny vibrations, which are imperceptible to humans. Our algorithms analyse these signals and enable conclusions to be drawn about the type and nature (e.g. hard, soft) of the interacting objects, the type of interaction and the condition of the objects (undamaged, damaged). In addition, the surface texture (e.g. rough, smooth) can be determined.

Products and services:

In addition to our medical products, we will be offering an evaluation kit in the future. This kit enables customers to record the microvibrations generated in their processes and upload them to a processing portal. With our support, patterns in the signal can then be identified and automated algorithms developed for evaluation.

Special features:

Our described technology is being used for the first time worldwide in medical technology. The necessary expertise in the field of industrial process monitoring is also not widespread. We therefore offer unique expertise and opportunities for process improvement by tapping into completely new data sources.

Financing:

We are currently financed by investors and funding and are making our first sales.
