Industrial Bioeconomy 2025 dialogue platform

The Industrial Bioeconomy Dialogue Platform of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection has started the year 2025 with a new structure and strategic focus. Since its foundation in 2018, it has been pursuing the goal of actively shaping the transition to a sustainable, bio-based industry in Germany and keeping the industrial location attractive and competitive in the long term.

The platform brings together stakeholders from industry, science, associations, trade unions and federal and state ministries and promotes dialogue between large companies, medium-sized companies, start-ups, universities and research institutions. Following a phase of intensive strategic development in 2023 and 2024 - the so-called reboot - the platform is now resuming its work with several thematic working groups. These focus on key fields of action such as sustainability, financing, demonstration plants and communication. BIO Deutschland is represented by Cay Horstmann in the working group on European IPCEI projects and Claudia Englbrecht in the working group on genetically modified organisms. In November 2023, the platform submitted a new position paper to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy containing concrete proposals for the development of bio-based value chains and the scaling of sustainable technologies. The German government is flanking this with targeted funding measures for demonstration projects and technology transfer. Further political steps were prepared at the central meeting of the industrial policy department in January 2025. Numerous activities are planned for the current year, including a BMWK symposium in autumn and participation in the Hannover Messe trade fair. The dialogue platform thus remains a central forum for the further development of the industrial bioeconomy in Germany.
