To kick things off on 4 October, the ice hockey team will wear new special pink jerseys at their home match against the Tilburg Trappers. The jerseys are also set to be worn at the other home matches in October. Once the campaign is over, they will be auctioned off. In addition, pink breast cancer ribbons will be sold at the matches. The proceeds will go to the Breast Centre at Leipzig University Hospital. Alongside this, the Breast Centre will be providing information at the home matches on early detection, diagnosis and treatment. Visitors will be able to speak directly to medical specialists there. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. Around one in eight women will develop the disease during their lifetime. For hospitals and healthcare providers, the Leipzig partnership also demonstrates how medical education can reach new target groups through partners outside the traditional healthcare system. The combination of sport, the regional economy and university medicine thus also becomes a tool for health communication.
