This record was made possible by an impressive joint effort. For the first time, over 60,000 registrations of potential donors were received from more than 320 clinics and organisations. More than 12,000 counselling sessions with relatives led to 4,585 consents. The rate thus remained stable, although the healthcare system continues to be under severe pressure. Saxony is once again one of the regions with the highest number of donations. Over one hundred tissue donations were realised at Leipzig University Hospital alone. Corneas were particularly in demand. As a result, thousands of people were able to preserve or regain their sight. At the same time, the shortage of heart valves remains high, which is why the further expansion of donation programmes is urgently needed. The figures show what is possible when education, trust and medical innovation come together.
