Science with a vision - new biosphere series from Leipzig aims to shake up global decision-makers

How does deforestation affect the water cycle, why are coastal habitats systemically relevant and what does climate change mean for global fire dynamics? Answers to these and many other questions are provided by a new international publication series led by Leipzig University. The aim is to bring biosphere research into the political, economic and social spheres more quickly between the major UN reports.

The first issue has now been published in the scientific journal Biogeoscience. It brings together new findings from the fields of ecology, sociology and economics and highlights eight key areas of action, from carbon sequestration and nature-based solutions to the social dimension of ecosystem services. Prof Ana Bastos and Dr Friedrich Bohn, who are in charge of the project, are focusing on interdisciplinarity and global perspectives.

It's not just the format that's new, but also the ambition. Together with the consulting agency BAM Bock auf Morgen, the knowledge is to be prepared in such a way that it really reaches decision-makers. After all, anyone who is serious about transformation must not only conduct research, but also communicate it.
