The trend at the level of individual specialist departments is particularly striking. In the latest assessment, 23 of the 33 specialist departments at the UKL that were examined received a recommendation. In 2025, the figure was 16, and in the previous year 11 out of the 34 departments assessed at that time. This means that the positive assessment is increasingly spreading across the entire range of medical services. Leipzig also secured a place in the top ten in the Stern Hospital List for 2026 and 2027. The UKL ranks ninth out of 100 recommended hospitals, putting it on a par with Dresden University Hospital. Leipzig receives an accolade in 35 out of 39 medical specialities assessed. Such rankings are just one indicator among many when it comes to evaluating hospital sites. However, the results show that, alongside individual specialist centres, the focus is increasingly shifting towards the breadth of medical quality. For university hospitals, this is also relevant in the competition for patients, skilled staff and cooperation partners.
