UKL Management Board confirmed ahead of schedule

Leipzig. At its meeting on 11 December, the Supervisory Board of Leipzig University Hospital (UKL) appointed both the Chief Medical Officer Prof Christoph Josten and the Chief Commercial Officer Dr Robert Jacob for a further term of office.

The extension thus takes place ahead of the actual end of the contracts. Dr Robert Jacob (44) will head the UKL as Chief Commercial Officer for a further five years from August 2024. From October 2024, Prof Dr Christoph Josten (69) will, at his own request, continue in his role as Medical Director for only half a term of office of two years and six months, i.e. until the end of March 2027.

"As a team, Prof Josten and Dr Jacob have led Leipzig University Hospital very well through the last few years, which have been shaped by the coronavirus pandemic, and have mastered the associated demanding challenges," said the Chairman of the Supervisory Board Prof Wolfgang Holzgreve. "We are delighted that both will also be available for the coming years, which will continue to be associated with high demands in view of the transformation processes in the healthcare sector."

Supervisory Board member and Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow adds: "The extension of the terms of office of Prof. Josten and Dr Jacob is a convincing vote of confidence by the Supervisory Board and recognition of the work done so far at the helm of the University Hospital. I am convinced that both board members will continue to successfully develop the combination of research, teaching and first-class patient care at Leipzig University Hospital in the coming years. "

About Prof Christoph Josten: Prof Christoph Josten has headed the Department of Trauma, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery at Leipzig University Hospital since 1997 and has been Managing Director of the Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma Surgery and Plastic Surgery since 2014. The 69-year-old trauma surgeon was also Medical and Scientific Director of the Department of Operative Medicine for several years. In April 2018, Josten took over as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Leipzig University. He was appointed to the Medical Board of the UKL on 1 October 2019.

Dr Robert Jacob has been Chief Commercial Officer of the UKL since 1 August 2019. He was previously Head of Corporate Controlling at Charité, Germany's largest university hospital. This was preceded by positions as head of faculty controlling and commercial director of the Charité medical faculty. Before moving to university medicine, the Dresden native worked for several years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Germany and abroad. He wrote his dissertation in the field of economic and social psychology at the University of Cologne.
