Implants - When the answer is in the layer!

Medical technology companies are a key driver of medical progress with an intensive commitment to research and development. On average, these companies invest around 9 per cent of their turnover in research and development. Progress in medical technology is the result of numerous continuous improvements to products and processes. Germany has been very successful on the global market to date.

Many medical technology trends are based on surfaces and layers. In short: it's all about surface conditioning, materials and materials. Rapid developments are still taking place to influence the biocompatibility of materials. New manufacturing processes and modern composite materials in connection with coating technologies as well as the functionalisation of surfaces have continued to fuel the field in recent years. In addition to the modification of metallic and ceramic surfaces, organic materials, especially polymers, can also be specifically adapted in terms of their degradation and cross-linking through hydrophilisation or hydrophobisation. Antimicrobial properties are also sought, as is a coating with biogenic, organic components in order to increase biocompatibility.
