Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed when at least three of the following five criteria are present: central obesity, elevated triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, and elevated fasting glucose. Affecting up to a third of the global population, this cluster of conditions significantly raises the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. At its core, metabolic syndrome develops once subcutaneous adipose tissue reaches its storage capacity and excess lipids spill over into the liver, muscle, and pancreas, driving organ-specific insulin resistance, atherogenic dyslipidemia, and progressive β-cell dysfunction.

This webinar presents a series of case studies showing how lipidomic profiling helps to identify the molecular changes underlying metabolic syndrome and connects them to clinical outcomes. We cover lipid profiles in individuals with obesity, lipidomics-based risk scores for diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and lipid signatures linked to cardiovascular and inflammatory conditions, illustrating how lipid profiling bridges mechanism and clinic in metabolic syndrome research.

Here is what you can learn

• Altered lipid metabolism in metabolic syndrome
• Clinical indicators of metabolic obesity
• Lipid profiles of individuals with obesity
• Lipidomics risk scores in diabetes and cardiovascular disease
• Lipid profiles of cardiovascular & inflammatory diseases
