Business trip to Vietnam: focus on skilled labour and trade fair for medical technology and pharmaceuticals

The city's business delegation will be led by Torsten Bonew, First Mayor and Councillor for Finance, and Dr Martina Münch, Mayor and Councillor for Social Affairs, Health and Diversity. In addition to the topic of recruiting skilled workers, the business trip will focus on an exchange of experiences on fighting the coronavirus pandemic, the expansion of existing collaborations in the water and energy industry, future cooperation with the 175 military hospital and the economic forum "Green Growth - On the way to a climate-neutral economy". In addition, the Department of Economic Affairs will be exhibiting with regional companies at Vietnam's largest trade fair for medical technology and pharmaceuticals, the „Pharmed & Healthcare“. Germany's joint stand at this trade fair was organised by Leipziger Messe International on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

„Projects that we initiated during the successful business trip in November 2022 are now being concretised and implemented on site: For the first time, Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe is taking part and will be recruiting trainees and skilled workers in several Vietnamese cities. St. Georg Hospital is intensifying contact with its trainees, who will be starting their careers with us in Leipzig in 2024. In addition, our city will be presenting itself together with regional companies at the largest Vietnamese pharmaceutical and healthcare trade fair - another result of last year's delegation trip and the agreement concluded at the time between the Leipzig and Vietnamese trade fair company ADPEX, explains Torsten Bonew.

Mayor of Social Affairs Dr Martina Münch is also looking forward to exchanging experiences with Vietnamese colleagues on topics such as the digitalisation of health authorities and pandemic response. "We will be holding intensive discussions in hospitals, educational institutions and with representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health. Vietnam is investing a great deal in its healthcare system, which opens up interesting opportunities for cooperation and opportunities for Leipzig companies.

Leipzig transport companies recruit skilled workers

The trip is being organised by the City of Leipzig's Office for Economic Development in close cooperation with Leipziger Messe International. Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe is planning to sign a memorandum of understanding on site with the aim of attracting Vietnamese specialists to the Leipzig mobility market. The company is building on the experience it has gained in recruiting Spanish bus drivers, for example.
