The biotech scene met at Bio-City Leipzig for the Finance Day and discussed the question of where the next unicorns will come from and who will finance them. Despite a weak equity year for the industry so far, the investors on the podium were optimistic. Capital is available, they unanimously said, and there are signs that the number of deals in Europe is increasing again. Large financing rounds with European investors are also possible again.
Matthias Bach from BIO Deutschland moderated the panel with representatives from HTGF, SpinLab, Wellington Partners, CARMA FUND and MIG Capital. The experts agreed that the current market changes in the USA also offer opportunities for Europe. However, it was criticised that large insurers still prefer to invest in biotechnology outside Europe. The Finance Day has been a fixed meeting point for capital and innovation in the German life sciences scene for 18 years.
