New Year's reception at Leipzig University Medicine

With 8,000 employees and rising patient numbers, Leipzig University Hospital is a key location factor. In 2024, over 408,000 patients were treated, seven per cent more than in the previous year. The number of emergency cases and operations reached new highs. Medical Director Professor Christoph Josten sees further growth and emphasises the need for modern structures and qualified staff.

IHK representative Magerl emphasised the importance of medical care for companies, while Science Minister Gemkow highlighted the enormous added value potential of research. Dean Professor Bechmann called for more investment in research infrastructure in order to keep pace with the rapid innovation cycles. Dr Weber from SpinLab sees Leipzig as a possible top location for the healthcare industry and bioinformatics, but calls for more freedom in regulation and an innovation-friendly culture.

University Medicine Leipzig is not only an important healthcare provider, but also a driver of innovation and growth. Close cooperation between science, politics and business as well as targeted investments are crucial in order to further utilise this potential.
