In the anniversary year of the Saxon biotechnology sector - 25 years of the Saxony Biotechnology Initiative - biosaxony not only set the course for research, innovation and location development, but also presented specific projects such as the company builder "iGNITE MEDICAL" and the rebranding of biosaxony Management GmbH to leap:up GmbH.
In the evening, the content agenda was followed by the festive part: the leap:up summer party brought together entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and start-ups in a relaxed atmosphere - accompanied by live music, cocktails and in-depth discussions.
Finances, Expertise, Foundations
The members' meeting was marked by an anniversary: 25 years of biotechnology in Saxony. CEO Dr Oliver Uecke emphasised the international orientation of the industry: "25 years ago, 200 million euros were invested in the development of the biotech landscape in Saxony and today we are celebrating the successes. Now it is time to take the next step with the further development of a Life Science Strategy 2035 for Saxony in order to continue to strengthen the location in a sustainable way in international comparison."
The newly presented company builder iGNITE MEDICAL, which is intended to accelerate the founding process in the future - even in places where there are no traditional founders, received particular attention.
Recruiting talent remained a key topic. New programmes such as a specialist study, a trainee programme for graduates and additional further training are intended to strengthen the location. biosaxony presented solid financial results and announced plans for additional financing instruments, including the planned venture capital fund GOLDTRACK and a foundation.
The focus was also on the future: Leipzig will host the German Biotechnology Days in 2026, and the Finance Days are also scheduled for October 2025.
Summer evening, strong community
Strategy and atmosphere merged at the subsequent summer party. The party was made possible by a strong network of partners and supporters - first and foremost the members themselves and the dedicated leap:up team. The culinary highlight was provided by the law firm Luther, which sponsored the exceptional catering. The band of the evening was brought on stage thanks to the support of the Dresden Technology Centre, the multidisciplinary business consulting group eureos and the patent law firm Maikowski & Ninnemann. Further contributions came from Cencora (formerly World Courier), PBM GR.UP and Sino Biological, Inc. And last but not least, BIO CITY LEIPZIG provided the rooms that provided the perfect setting for the members' meeting and party.
Conclusion
The combination of the members' meeting and summer party impressively demonstrated that Saxony's life sciences sector draws its strength not only from figures and strategies - but above all from its vibrant network, which keeps an eye on both the location and the future.
