AI and computer-implemented inventions – intellectual property rights, opportunities and limitations

Do you develop software, use artificial intelligence in your products or processes, or work with open-source components? If so, sooner or later the question will arise: How can these innovations be effectively protected – and which intellectual property rights are even applicable?

When is a software-based or AI-supported development patentable? What requirements must be met? What are the limits of patent protection, and when do other intellectual property rights offer a better alternative? And how can an intellectual property strategy be developed that safeguards innovations in the long term and makes them commercially exploitable?

The event is jointly organised by the Chemnitz Patent Information Centre and the C:Hub of the Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Experts in the fields of patent law and innovation protection provide practical guidance on the legal foundations for protecting computer-implemented inventions and AI-based innovations. The focus is on the patentability of software-based solutions, the distinction from other industrial property rights, and the development of a suitable intellectual property strategy – from the initial idea through to filing and commercialisation. In addition, you will receive information on funding opportunities and, using practical examples, learn which aspects should be taken into account as early as the development phase.

In addition to the programme of talks, you will have the opportunity to discuss individual queries with experienced patent attorneys during a confidential initial consultation for inventors.

The event is aimed at companies, start-ups, inventors, researchers and anyone else interested in developing or using software- and AI-based innovations, or who wish to strategically plan their protection.
